The court system is complex, but our Legal Advocates are here to guide you every step of the way. We empower survivors by answering procedural questions, assisting with Civil Protection Orders (CPOs), and standing beside you during court proceedings so you never have to face the system alone.
Civil Protection Order
A Civil Protection Order (CPO) is a court order designed to protect individuals from domestic violence, stalking, or sexual assault by legally restricting an abuser's behavior. The relationship between the survivor and the perpetrator determines the type of Civil Protection Order that will be filed.
Legal Advocates can assist survivors with the filing.
In Warren County, Civil Protection Orders are filed at the Common Pleas Court 500 Justice Dr. Lebanon, OH 45036. Bring a photo ID and the address where the perpetrator can be served with the order.
Other protection orders
Restraining Orders are filed in divorce cases. Temporary Protection Orders (TPO) and No Contact Orders (NCO) are filed in criminal court matters and are not the same as a Civil Protection Order (CPO).
Advocates are not attorneys
Legal advocates can help survivors navigate the court system; however, they are not attorneys and are not permitted to give legal advice. When necessary, Legal Advocates provide referrals to help connect a survivor to an attorney.
Victim Information and Notification Everyday (VINE)
VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday) is available to anyone, including survivors, advocates, and the public. It provides free, anonymous, 24-hour access to the custody status of offenders in the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction, county jails, and juvenile inmates in the Department of Youth Services.
VINE also provides automated telephone or email notification when the offender’s custody changes, including release, transfer, escape, re-arrest (return from escape) or death.
